Before Rome - A Walk in the Footsteps of the Ancient EtruscansA Walking Tour - Tuscany, ItalySeptember 22, 2009 - October 1, 2009 Join us on a mystical journey back 7000 years to walk in the footsteps of the ancient Etruscans and get to know early civilizations by walking these trails. The tour will start in the coastal region of Tuscany. You will hike the trails around Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano. There will also be a day trip to Tarquinia to visit the world famous National Etruscan Museum. Then we will head over to Sovana where you will hike the "hollow roads" between Pitigliano, Sorano, and Sovana - all ancient Etruscan villages. These trails are excavated in the tufa (yellow volcanic rock typical of this area) and are like tunnels winding down from the hills to the banks of the river or valley. You will spend two nights in Sovana where you will indeed feel like you have stepped back in time. Then it is onto Rome where the tour will end after a day of exploring ancient Ostia Antica. You may want to stay an extra day to explore Rome on your own before heading back to modern civilization in the U.S. Lodging will be in a hotel in Sovana and in a villa overlooking the Mediterranean in Porto Ercole The villa has 8 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, a full-sized swimming pool, and garden terraces for dining and relaxing. The price of this tour is $3500.00 per person. This includes lodging, all meals (except some lunches), transportation around the area and pickup at the Rome Airport, guided walking tours, museum entrance fees. Open to men and women and is limited to 10 participants. |
