Concert in the BarnThis tour is designed for bicyclists and music lovers. This tour centers around the Olympic Music Festival and the chamber music performed by world-class musicians in a century-old barn on Washington's beautiful Olympic Peninsula. The tour begins on Friday night with a great meal prepared by Suzanne McNeilly, co-owner of Changing Gears and a graduate of Seattle Central Culinary Arts School. On Saturday morning, after a scrumptious breakfast, we will begin our bicycle ride to Quilcene (approximately 13 miles) for the Concert in the Barn. We will enjoy the concert out on the lawn, where you will enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch before the concert begins at 2:00p.m. After the concert, a van will be provided for those not wishing to cycle back to Port Townsend. Before dinner, there will be time to relax on the beach, take a swim or perhaps engage in a game of croquet. Dinner will be a delight to your palate, as you sit down to an Italian Feast, which will include some great wines. Breakfast on Sunday will include a cooking class for those interested, as you help Suzanne prepare an Italian brunch before you depart for home. Your lodging for this week-end retreat will be at the Chevy Chase Beach Cabins, which have spectacular views of Discovery Bay and include a 1/4 mile private beach. The cabins are part of an old and much-loved resort complex that has been in operation, in various configurations, for over one hundred years. The cabins were renovated in 2003 and have modern, private bathrooms and kitchens. There are many activities to help you relax and enjoy the surrounding 7 acres including tennis, shuffleboard, croquet, horseshoes, swimming pool, and in season, clam digging on the beach. There are movies that you can check out also. And of course, there is nearby Port Townsend and Fort Worden, where An Officer and a Gentleman was filmed. So, as you can see, there is plenty to do if you don't want to take part in the bicycle ride. For non-cyclists, you can catch a ride in the van out to the concert. The cost of this weekend retreat is $ per person ($1230 per couple). Price includes lodging, all meals, van and mechanical support during bike ride, concert ticket, Italian wines to enjoy, and cooking class. Limited to 10 participants.
