Fields of Lavender
Bicycling and Hiking Weekend for Women Only
Sequim, Washington
July 12, 2008 - July 13, 2008
Lavender

Lavender is flourishing on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. Join Changing Gears for this weekend of bicycling and hiking around the Sequim area. This tour will be just before the big Lavender Festival, so the lavender will be in full bloom. Sequim is located between the deep waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the breathtaking Olympic Mountains. And Sequim is famous for its sunny weather!

We will meet on Saturday at the Dungeness Spit Wilderness area and hike out to the Dungeness lighthouse located at the end of the spit. This is the oldest lighthouse north of the Columbia River. It was built in 1857. It is now an automated facility and is cared for by volunteer lighthouse tenders. The walk to the lighthouse is about five miles each way. (You don’t have to hike the whole way. You can just relax on the sand or stick your toes in the water.) We will provide snacks for the hike. After the hike, we will have some time for shopping in the quaint little stores in Sequim and visiting a wonderful herb nursery before having dinner.

On Sunday, we will start the bicycle ride from our hotel. We will stop to visit the Jardin du Soleil Lavender Farm along the way. You will have plenty of time to admire all the acres of lavender as well as other types of plants. You will be able to pick your own bouquet and shop for many of the lavender bath and body products. The bicycle ride is 25 miles and includes some hills along with many flat areas. We will be cycling through farm lands and along the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The ride will end up at the Purple Haze Lavender Farm for a gourmet picnic lunch and then a lavender craft class before heading home.

Tour price is $285.00 per person and includes lodging (double occupancy), meals, lavender classes, sag wagon to carry the many purchases made along the way, trip map, mechanical assistance, and a T-shirt to commemorate this great weekend. Tour is limited to 12 women. We promise that this tour will soothe the body and spirit and provide an escape from everyday life!
